Is AOL crazy?
Starting today AOL is allowing the use of their mail, IM client, and main software for free. Yeah that's right, free as in you pay nothing. They will still charge for their dial-up service but I hear they will no longer advertise it. This may be a big disappointment for those who looked forward to the aol cd in their mailbox every other day. The thing I don't understand is that 80% of AOLs revenue comes from dial up subscription fees. Can AOL draw enough revenue from advertisements? Is this just more evidence that the inevitable life cycle of a business is failure?
In other AOL news....it seems that netscape.com is trying to steal the social networking bookmark title from the raining king DIGG.com. I've even read that aol/netscape is offering money to top Diggers to switch to their site. That's just lame.
